Hello, Dr. K here.

My name is Kalyan. Many call me "Dr. K".

The greater part of the last four decades has been a journey in time, an exciting story of sorts through chapters of music, medicine and personal experiences . I now find myself at a stage in life where I feel compelled to pass on and give to others what I was blessed to have received. I grew up in the south of India, in Madras now called Chennai, a city that gave me the best school and college years, years that set the stage for everything I am today.

In the 1970s', after six years of basic medical education and post graduation training I qualified to be an anesthesiologist. The years that followed were fast paced working in general hospitals and also private practice settings. My move to the Middle East in the 90's introduced me to a new and vast multicultural expatriate population which, apart from dramatically broadening my perspective and understanding that care providing had no geographical boundaries, also reinforced my belief that people everywhere, had similar problems and a need to be heard and understood.

The experience gained through the years of serving both as an anesthesiologist and general practitioner helped me better understand a patient's pain and its related emotional and psychological issues. My own personal medical history that included multiple surgeries, near death and miraculous experiences only further motivated my focus and involvement in Chronic Pain management and Counseling therapy.
A very major passion since childhood has been music. I took it seriously enough to later equip me to take leadership roles in many musical groups, church choirs and the opportunity to perform and conduct on many international platforms. I have since integrated music as a tool in therapy.

My thirty years+ of Anesthesiology, Pain management and general family practice in India and the Middle East has given me a better understanding of the universal need of people regardless of race, ethnicity or status. Since retirement from active medical practice I have strived to incorporate this knowledge and experience gained to undergird my post retirement endeavor of “MEDIKALMUSIC”, a mission where music and medicine feed off each other to evolve into a force that can help a fellow being.

My strength lies in interacting with people in any environment that calls for holistic care. I love music and hold firm to the belief that music can enhance a moment, and even a lifetime. My desire at this point in time would be to exercise my strength as care giver and share my love for music simultaneously. I am currently living in Brampton, Ontario with my wife Shoba, who is a travel consultant. We have two daughters Kavitha and Riyanka, both married.
